8. DL1961

Made In | USA
Sustainable Materials | Upcycled & recycled materials, responsibly sourced cotton & clean dyes
Brand Ethics | Ethical production, water recycling, solar-powered
Our Pick | Tyra Romper Short ($199)
Price Range | $199-$279

You’ve likely heard of DL1961 if you’re a fashionista, but did you know it’s a family-owned brand committed to sustainability? DL1961 takes plastic bottles and upcycled denim to create newer, high-quality pieces, made with less than one percent of the water used during traditional production. Along the way, 98 percent of that water is recycled, too. We are especially impressed with the team’s effort to minimize excessive washing, thanks to the antimicrobial treatment each garment receives before shipment. For when a full-on jumpsuit is too hot, you’ll find all of us rocking these rompers instead.

9. Birdsong

Made In | London
Sustainable Materials | GOTS certified organic cotton
Brand Ethics | Made-to-order, ethically made by women in London, organic & deadstock materials, recycled packaging, gives back
Our Pick | Organic Denim Jumpsuit (£240)
Price Range | £240

For a splurge that’s made-to-order, Birdsong’s organic denim jumpsuit is it. This piece is individually sewn by women in Britain—some who are low-income migrant mothers and others who are older women in knitting circles. All are supremely talented, and all are paid fair wages. When it comes to materials, the organic cotton is grown and woven in small batches in India from a Kerala-based family. We can go on and on about the ethics, but what we really need to say: You’ll never regret ordering this one-of-a-kind piece. (And yes, Birdsong does offer global shipping.)
